Ahhhhhh! Fireworks

Friday, July 3 was Fireworks at the Rockies. Here is the finale that I filmed. They’re great! So are the Rockies these days. On the Fourth of July we went to see the fireworks after the Rapids game. They were a dud (there were technical problems). This is good news because you can go see the redo of their fireworks on July 25!!! Your family can park anywhere near the Rapids stadium and see a great bonus fireworks show. What cool stuff did you do on the Fourth of July? Write about it on the Summer Stuff page.

Rockies, Rachel, and Tornadoes!

June 14

It seemed like a nice day. I took my little niece Rachel to the Rockies game. We were first in line to meet Dinger. Rachel got her book signed! We went to our seats (way up high by first base. Of course we stopped for nachos for Rachel (healthy food) It was now the fifth inning.

Rachel and Dinger

It was getting pretty dark. I looked out beyond the stands and

this is what I saw!

funnel cloud

EEEEEEK! A funnel cloud right over the stadium. Most people hadn’t noticed it yet. I told Rachel we were going to move for awhile. I gathered up her stroller, backpack, my little bag, the nachos, and Rachel and headed down the steps. We went down into a stairway. Just then the tornado siren went off. We sat in the corner and Rachel happily ate nachos while lots of people filled in to our “shelter.” After about an hour the game started again. Rachel wanted to stay so we went back to our seats. Rachel ate candy cotton (cotton candy) and kettle korn while she read everything on the scoreboard and cheered for Tulo. The Rockies won. I saw a cool and scary funnel cloud. Rachel had a swell day!

Up
Reviewed by Eddie Saliman

From the previews I thought this was just going to be a silly story. Boy, was I wrong!

Up is a story about an old guy and a little kid. The old guy uses balloons to fly his house to South America. The kid (a scout) comes along. They find cool creatures,  talking dogs, and discover a famous old explorer. They go through a lot of adventures before heading home. This is the simple summary.

Actually this story is about life and death, memories, caring for others, and letting go. The story is quite beautiful and quite complex. It’s also sad at times.

Little kids will love the animation (especially in 3D). It can be a bit scary for little kids. For bigger kids and adults there is another whole level to the movie. I recommend Up to kids in first grade and above who want to enjoy the fun story. I really recommend the story to fifth graders and above and to adults for the great animation and the very sweet story.
